The Garvan Weizmann Centre for Cellular Genomics (GWCCG) will open in 2017 and is Australia’s only multidisciplinary facility for cellular genomics – the study of the molecular genetic states of thousands of individual cells. The Weizmann Institute of Science has outstanding expertise in single-cell genomics and in other key emerging technologies; the Garvan Institute of Medical Research is a leader in the analysis of cancer genomes and their behaviour and is at the forefront of genome sequencing in Australia. 

The Opportunity:

We currently have an opportunity for a scientifically trained Project Officer to join the newly established Garvan Weizmann Centre for Cellular Genomics, to oversee the coordination of all projects through the GWCCG as well as the key initial projects of the centre. This position will be responsible for ensuring all projects are processed and responded to in a professional manner and for the identification and follow-up of new business opportunities.

Responsibilities may include;

  • Manage the sample flow and resource utilisation for the GWCCG
  • Delegate project-related tasks where appropriate, assess priorities, manage competing deadlines and ensure that the GWCCG leadership team and GRF is kept up-to-date on KIP status/challenges
  • Coordinate the collaborative partnership between Garvan and Weizmann including the Scientific Steering Committee meeting and minutes
  • Be responsible for collecting and collating the information required for generation of high quality progress reports for all philanthropic donors as well as relevant and significant internal and external stakeholders.

Skills & Experience required for this role

  • MSc or PhD degree in a relevant area of science and experience in or understanding of cytometry, genomics and bioinformatics
  • Proven experience in a project coordination role within a Scientific Research Environment
  • Broad knowledge of cytometry, genomics, bioinformatics, and research/healthcare systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management methodology, including planning, implementation and reporting
  • Ability to assess priorities and manage competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience in the co-ordinating complex relationships and projects
  • Excellent written and oral communication, representation and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders, including those in the GWCCG executive.
