The Opportunity

We are currently seeking talented and driven Graduate to Post-doctoral Researchers to join the laboratory of Professor Herbert Herzog. These are key positions that will become an integral part of an already established team of experts who study the molecular mechanisms controlling appetite, energy expenditure and adiposity using state-of-the-art technologies in neuroscience, metabolic and behavioural research.

The key responsibilities for the Post-doctoral Researcher include:

  • In vivo and in vitro analysis of various knockout mouse models using physiological, cell culture and immunohistochemical techniques
  • Collating experimental data, writing up experimental procedures and interpreting experimental results
  • Being mainly responsible for the writing of manuscripts, with an emphasis on submissions to highly quality journals
  • Communicating your research as well as relevant publications and developments in the field to those involved
  • Recommending ways of improving techniques, quantitative methods and quality control

The key responsibilities for the Graduate Researcher include:

  • Maintenance and monitoring of mouse colonies
  • Conduct experiments under supervision such as glucose tolerance tests and routine assays
  • Record experimental procedures and analyse results
  • Provide support to senior members of the group and also to the general running of the lab
  • There will be an opportunity to undertake a PhD after one or two years of research experience

This full-time position is offered on a 1-year term in the first instance.

About You

The Post-doctoral Researcher should have a PhD degree and a strong background in neuroanatomy and demonstrated competence in in situ hybridisation, immunohistochemistry and other related localisation techniques. You should also be able to demonstrate autonomy and consistent work quality as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.

The Graduate Researcher will have one or two years of research experience with a strong background in mouse-related work and demonstrated competence in biochemistry type analysis. Knowledge in the basic molecular biology techniques, in situ hybridisation, immunohistochemistry microscopy and other related localisation techniques are an advantage. You should also be able to demonstrate creativity, team spirit as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.
